A key development for Schools football in RCT
RCTSFA & Ely Valley Miners Welfare Announce Schools Football Partnership
Rhondda Cynon Taff Schools Football Association (RCTSFA) is delighted to announce an exciting new delivery partnership with Ely Valley. As part of a new strategy of engagement with Schools across RCT, the RCT Schools FA will work closely with Ely Valley via a Memorandum of Understanding to deliver a range of activities including inter-schools football competitions such as the Primary 5s; out of term soccer schools and the wider development of girls’ football across the county borough.
The Chairman of RCTSFA, Ceri Jones, outlined the vision behind the new strategy, “RCTSFA has a long proud history of providing schoolchildren with opportunities to play at inter-association level against opposition from all over the region. We are looking to strengthen this provision in 18/19 with the addition of new squads. Critically, through the partnership with Ely Valley we also now have the capacity and capability of significantly enhancing our outreach activity with Primary and Secondary Schools across the whole of RCT. Much of our focus is on preparing representative teams to participate in National County competitions. However, it is important that we try and cater for players of all abilities and the support of Ely Valley Miners Welfare will provide opportunities for all primary school pupils throughout the county.”
Ely Valley Miners Welfare is a community-based charity based in Tonyrefail. As part of the Charity’s assets, it has fit for purpose all weather, floodlit football facilities, a full size grass pitch and a qualified and experienced team of football development officers. Neil Evans, Chairman of Ely Valley, welcomed the opportunity to work together with RCTSFA, “This is a fantastic opportunity for the Charity to maximise the use of our assets to support RCTSFA’s objective of helping schoolchildren all across our county to become more active and engaged in the wonderful game of football in a safe and fun environment. We have a successful track record of delivering school outreach programmes, so the partnership makes strategic sense for us and our stakeholders.”
RCTSFA currently has 6 squads comprising 150 players from all across RCT. Ceri Jones is keen to emphasise that the Association is consistently open to the opportunity to yield new collaborations with likeminded partners, “Even though we must always remain independent of any single football club, we have an open door policy and are constantly looking to work with organisations and clubs that can help us fulfil the vision of the Welsh Schools Football Association at the local level here in RCT.”
